The average homeowner will eventually figure out that their family’s safety and security does not lay on the shoulders of local law enforcement agencies, and it is up to them to protect their loved one’s by any means necessary. The more external home security products you use, will not only visually help you deter the everyday house burglar, or home invasion criminal, but can save you money on your home-owners insurance policy to boot. A combination of a wireless driveway alarm and electric gates for entry on to your property will let all would be suspects know you are ready for them, and it most cases they will move on to less protected properties.
Driveway Alarm Choices
There are several systems on the market to let you know when a vehicle pulls up into your drive, and some borrow technology from decades past. One of the original driveway reports is the pressure hose type that was so popular with gas stations for a long time. The weight of the vehicle would press the hose, and ring a bell that was installed externally to alert the service people a client was present. This unit is still available, but not as useful as the more technologically advance products that have been brought to the consumer market in the last five to ten years.
Typically you can invest anywhere from about twenty bucks to several hundred, or even thousand in a system that will not only let you know when some one walks up, or drives up to your house, but can be attached to a much larger electronic net that will give your property complete coverage. Literally creating a perimeter alarm that will alert everyone in the home that you have visitors whether that trespasser wants you to know it or not.
Gate Openers
Adding electric or remote gate openers to the entrance of your driveway will usually red flag you as a possible target for criminals, as they want a smooth entry and exit without having to deal with the slightest obstacle. For a few hundred dollars this device can attached to an already standing double or single gate entry system, or added to a new system when the gates are being installed. The combination of both the driveway alarm, and the gate openers will give you the peace of mind you need when relaxing at home with your family, or having to leave them behind while you go to work. If you really want to deter people that want to enter your property, consider adding external closed circuit cameras next to the gate, and other strategic entry points on your property.
You can actually use the cameras in conjunction with your driveway system, to where the video recorder will activate when the alarm is tripped. Giving you a recorded session of the person or persons trying to enter your property. This can be handed over to the police if a break in occurs to help identify the suspects.
One final note: Always check with consumers report driveway alarm reviews to make sure that you are getting most value, and function for your home security investment.
